Haxus-backed AIMATTER acquired by Google

AIMATTER, a company from Belarus that specializes in image processing technologies, got acquired by Google, according to TechCrunch. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in spring 2016, AIMATTER specializes in building next-gen apps with proprietary advanced image processing technologies. Its SDK is able to run deep learning models in real time directly on smartphones. Among company’s solutions are photo & video segmentation, gender detection, hair color change, de-noise, digital makeup, and others.

The company was founded by Yuri Melnichek - a famous Belarusian serial entrepreneur and engineer, ex-Googler, founder of Maps.me - a startup that made OpenStreetMap useful for millions of ordinary mobile users. The project was among TOP3 map projects by the number of active audience, and got acquired by Mail.ru, a Russian internet giant, in 2014.

Other founding team members that stood at the grassroots of the company include Andrei Kulik (co-founder), a highly experienced technical expert, ex-Googler, owner of 5 US patents; and Matvei Zhdanovich (co-founder), technical expert, ex-Googler, co-author of 3 US patents.  

In January 2017, the company announced it raised a $2M Seed round. Investors included Haxus Fund, founded by Yuri Gurski, a successful entrepreneur known as advisor and investor to MSQRD (acquired by Facebook), Flo (the most popular female health app in the US), Prisma (App of the Year 2016 by Google and Apple) and MAPS.ME; former Vice President at Mail.ru, the biggest Internet company in Eastern Europe.

The technology in use is currently demonstrated by 2 apps: Fabby, an app for designer selfies, and Fabby Look for hair color change. Fabby’s breakthrough technology has been highly appreciated by professionals. The app was named Editor’s choice in App Stores of several countries including Russia, and featured in New Apps We Love Selection in the US. In February 2017, Fabby topped the Top Overall App Store ranking in 14 countries worldwide. The app was featured on the main page of ProductHunt twice, and became No.1 in the Tech category.
